Agriculture

Agriculture is the main socio-economic sector of Myanmar, including Rakhine state, which contributes to economic growth and the work opportunities in rural areas. Agriculture contributes not only in productivity but also in market expansion which controls major economic system in the country. There are a total 1.1 million acres are producible land areas in Rakhine, but the lands are not well-utilized for food production due to the lack of support. The largest percentage of lands are being used for only rice production during rainy season , and farmers are having very limited profit. There are several obstacles such as farming land has no irrigation structures, farmers are not well equipped, market has no stability, food production chain has no preservation facilities, no modern-technology-education system for farmers , etc. which are obstructive for the farmers to enhance the diversified seasonal crops production and maximize the income. Agriculture production and market chain have been the main priority to develop for Green Journey since 2019. Green Journey is continuously focusing on enhancing the capacity of the smallholders and commercial farmers especially in the rural areas in Rakhine state. With the collaboration of different doners, Green Journey has implemented several agri-productive activities in hundreds of villages in Rakhine. Home gardening, commercial vegetable production, agricultural-machineries distribution, mushroom production, capacity building trainings are the main activities of Green Journey.
